Our Annual VMCCA Membership Meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska, was informative and fun! I am sure other officers will agree and write about it in their Bulb Horn messages. A huge and deserved thank you to Myron and Barbara Smith for planning and hosting the meeting.
Meetings are meetings and generally not enjoyable.
This one was different. It began with a high level of energy and just kept building in enthusiasm and energy as it went along. As a result, much was accomplished! President Mark Hamlin issued a membership challenge to all of our members, not just those in attendance. The challenge is not necessarily new. We have heard the concept before. The results have never been achieved. His challenge is that every member recruits a new member in 2026. Accomplishing that would double our membership. Growth like that would mean a lot to our bottom line. It would also make some other facets of our operations easier to accomplish. For example, our membership number and the number of copies of the Bulb Horn are important factors in selling advertising.
I have a different challenge that I want to address. Attendance at our VMCCA Annual Meeting has declined over the ten years since Carol and I have been attending them. As mentioned above, these meetings are informative and fun. The 2027 Annual Membership Meeting is in French Lick, Indiana, during February 21–24, 2027. The meeting is hosted by the Black Swamp Chapter of the Great Lakes Region. The resort area there is top level. French Lick is well within driving distance for several of our regions and relatively easy to reach by air travel.
Here is my challenge. I would like to have double or even triple the number of attendees at our VMCCA Membership Meeting in 2027. This is possible! Envision 150 VMCCA members together helping develop our future. Imagine having the number of attendees that we could encourage vendors or program presentations being made at no cost to us. There are mutual benefits to having vendors and program presentations.
I am imagining the meeting becoming more of a conference environment.
A more focused invitation campaign is planned. Please consider attending and recruiting other members to attend, as well.
It will be fun!
