An update from the Activities VP, Carol Maxfield

As we leave the flurry of holidays and wintry weather behind us, it is time to think about the warmer months ahead. For antique car owners, that brings thoughts of needed repairs, cleaning vehicles up, and getting our vehicles “road ready.” With four major tours — the Chrome Glidden in Amarillo, Texas; the Mountain and Plains Region Tour; the 80th Revival AAA Glidden Tour®; and the Western National in Salina, Kansas — we will have some great touring experiences. It would be wonderful to have one more tour in the offerings mid-summer, perhaps a muscle car or convertible tour utilizing plans of a previous tour that could easily be revamped to run again with the bulk of the planning already done. Do you have an idea?

The first tour outside of our club and region that Ray and I went to was in Frankenmuth, Michigan, several years ago. It was a regional tour advertised in The Bulb Horn that caught our interest. That tour opened our eyes to the national touring offered by VMCCA. At that point, we had been VMCCA members for almost 30 years and had not realized what we had missed by not taking advantage of the opportunities offered on a regional and national level.

Our local chapters and regions provide additional opportunities for touring if advertised more broadly. The Bulb Horn calendar can include “Save the Date” entries for listing additional tours. If your chapter or region is hosting a tour open to all VMCCA members, consider advertising in the calendar. The same option is available in the Touring Chronicle and the website. Tours running for three or more days might be appealing to members outside your chapter/region looking for a nice organized get away with their antique car.
